Summer Schools

Two days of thought-provoking presentations, stimulating discussions, valuable feedback, and inspiring lectures. The CRC Summer School offered an exceptional platform for exchange on policy-oriented research.
I enjoyed learning about and discussing the work in progress presented by fellow researchers. My own early-stage project strongly benefited from the insightful comments. Diversity of participants’ research backgrounds made the interaction especially enriching. I appreciated the engagement of keynote speakers and other senior researchers, in particular their willingness to share not only the “success” stories, but also to show the “kitchen” of policy-oriented research.

The summer school offered a perfect possibility for exchanging ideas with other researchers.
Conducting research in the field of economics of education, a lot of my projects directly convey policy relevant implications. The summer school was a great opportunity to talk to other like-minded junior scholars and receive valuable feedback from them. During the various keynote lectures, I enjoyed learning from senior scholars how they approach policy relevant questions.

The summer school was composed of an inspiring selection of topics from a variety of research fields in economics.
Participants’ presentations were followed by constructive feedback and lively discussions by the audience, challenging chairs not to exceed time limits.
My research focuses on the economics of climate change. Since most participants of the summer school conduct research in unrelated fields, their discussions and feedback provided a fresh perspective on the work I presented. I learned how to improve my storyline and which aspects are particularly interesting for a broad audience.

The CRC Summer School was an exciting opportunity to gain insights into other young researchers’ projects. At the same time, I benefited from a lively debate about my own work.

With wide-ranging topics, from health to history, every participant could feel at home. I presented research between history and industrial organization and benefitted from feedback from a diverse set of researchers that I usually would not be surrounded with. These new ideas which arose through this encounter will certainly help me to develop my own thinking further.

The CRC summer school on science-based policy advice is great to learn about how economic research can improve policy from some of the leaders in the field. It was also an opportunity to get feedback on how to make my own work more useful for policymakers. I can recommend the summer school to anyone who is curious to learn about how economics can be used for better policy. The insights from the summer school will help guide my research process in the future.

I am Helen, a PhD candidate at KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and affiliated with the EBE graduate program at LMU. I really enjoyed the friendly and productive atmosphere of the CRC Summer School 2021. The talks of the keynote speakers were diverse, policy-relevant and super interesting. I really appreciated the opportunity to get in touch with so many PhD candidates from different fields in a relaxed and positive atmosphere (despite all of us attending online due to Covid). I received very valuable comments during my talk that certainly push the paper forward.
